The move allows the income tax department to detect any form of tax evasion and it also helps to reduce the issuance of multiple PAN cards that many use to defraud the government. It is worth noting that the first deadline issued by CBDT to link PAN card and Aadhaar card was 5 August 2017, however, the department kept on extending the deadline due to various reasons. The latest deadline issued by CBDT is 31st March 2022.
