Automakers in India, including Maruti Suzuki, are increasingly using railways to transport finished vehicles to cut fuel costs and reduce emissions. Railway transportation offers the advantage of efficiently transporting multiple batches of vehicles and enables automakers to reach faraway locations in half the time compared to roadways. Transportation via railways also helps automakers meet sustainability targets and offset carbon emissions. More than a fifth of all passenger vehicles produced in India are now transported via railways, representing a five-fold increase from 4.5% in fiscal 2018.
