Bharat NCAP: The Indian government will introduce the Bharat New Car Assessment Programme to enhance road safety on Tuesday. The programme will cover motor vehicles weighing up to 3.5 tonnes. The initiative provides carmakers with voluntary safety standards using the Automotive Industry Standard 197. Vehicles tested will then be awarded star ratings for their adult occupant and child occupant safety record for use by potential car customers to compare safety standards.
